Solar integrations at Nox Energy
Nox Energy is a Belgian startup that connects home energy devices, like heat pumps and solar panels, to the energy markets. Instead of these devices just doing their own thing, Nox steers them automatically based on electricity prices, weather forecasts and the state of the grid. For the user that means a lower energy bill, without having to install yet another app or buy extra hardware. Nox also works together with energy suppliers and manufacturers, so they can use all of these devices as flexibility on the grid.
How I ended up there
In October 2025 I took part in the AI Accelerate Hack in Leuven, organised by the Google Developer Group on Campus KU Leuven, together with some friends. We ended up winning, and afterwards Nox offered us an internship. Not a bad outcome for a single day of hacking!
What I did
Nox wanted to expand from heat pumps to solar panels. My work consisted of building integrations with different solar providers, making their devices available from the Nox platform. Every provider has its own API, with its own quirks, so a big part of the job was figuring out how each one works and making them all behave the same way on the Nox side.
